Cocktails for a Party: How Many Drinks Do You Need?

Planning a party is easy right up until you start doing the drinks maths.

How many cocktails do you need? Which ones should you choose? How much ice should you buy? And how do you avoid spending half the party making drinks while everyone else is having fun?

Here's our guide to getting the cocktails, serving setup, and music sorted, so you can enjoy your own party too.

How many cocktails should you allow per person?

There's no magic number, because every party and every group of guests is different. A two-hour afternoon gathering is very different from a Saturday night party that carries on until midnight.

Before deciding how many cocktails you need, think about:

  • How long is the party? The longer people are there, the more drinks you'll need overall.

  • What time does it start? Afternoon drinks, dinner, and a late-night party will all have different drinking patterns.

  • What else are you serving? If you've also got wine, beer, or prosecco, cocktails will only make up part of the drinks consumed.

  • Are cocktails the main event? If you're setting up a cocktail bar or making cocktails a feature of the party, you'll naturally need more.

  • Are you serving food? A sit-down dinner, BBQ, and drinks-only party are all different.

  • Who are your guests? You know them better than any online drinks calculator does.

Most importantly, remember that an average is just that. Some guests might stick to wine all evening, some might have one cocktail, some won't drink alcohol at all, while others will happily work their way through your cocktail menu.

Rather than trying to predict exactly what every person will drink, think about how many cocktail serves you'd like to have available across the whole party.

How much bottled cocktail do I need?

This bit is easy.

Each 500ml bottle of Rythmik makes approximately 5 cocktails, based on our recommended 100ml serve. Once you've decided roughly how many cocktails you'd like to have available, you can work out how many bottles you'll need.

Choose a small cocktail menu

You don't need ten different cocktails to give your guests a choice. In fact, keeping it simple is better.

Choose something fresh and citrusy (like our Pampelita Margarita), something richer and more spirit-forward (like our Great Taste Award-winning Maple Old Fashioned), and an Espresso Martini for later in the evening.

It gives your guests enough choice without turning your kitchen into a fully stocked bar. It also means you don't have to predict exactly what everybody will want before they arrive.

Don't become the bartender at your own party

Making two cocktails is enjoyable. Making twenty when you've got a house full of people is a different story.

Traditional cocktails can mean measuring several ingredients, squeezing fruit, shaking, pouring, washing equipment, and then starting all over again. That's fine when you're making drinks for a couple of people. For a party, you want to get good drinks into people's hands quickly, then get back to the party yourself.

Having cocktails ready to serve means you can do exactly that. Most Rythmik cocktails simply need to be properly chilled and served over ice. For an Espresso Martini, just hard-shake with ice for 15 seconds to get that proper frothy finish.

Set up a self-service cocktail bar

One of the easiest ways to serve cocktails at a party is to let people help themselves. You don't need anything elaborate. Set aside a table, worktop, or section of the kitchen and have everything in one place:

  • Chilled cocktails

  • Plenty of ice

  • Glasses

  • Garnishes (citrus slices, coffee beans)

  • Chilled soda water, so guests can lengthen cocktails such as It's A London Thing or Cherry Amour if they prefer

  • A measure or bottle pourer

  • A cocktail shaker for Espresso Martinis

  • Somewhere for empties and used glasses

Guests can choose what they'd like and you're not taking drinks orders all night. If you're serving several cocktails, you could even write a simple menu so people can see what's available.

Get your cocktails cold before the party

Don't rely on ice to do all the work. Get your cocktails properly chilled in the fridge before people arrive and keep unopened bottles cold until you need them.

And when it comes to ice, our advice is simple: get more than you think you'll need. You'll use it for serving, shaking Espresso Martinis, and keeping bottles cold. Running out of ice halfway through a party is considerably more annoying than having a bag left over the next morning.

Let the cocktails sort the music too

We don't think a good party is only about what's in the glass. Music changes the whole atmosphere of a room, which is why every Rythmik cocktail has its own DJ-curated playlist.

Scan the QR code on your bottle and your soundtrack is ready to go. You can use the playlists to shape the energy of the evening as it moves:

  • Afternoon Lounging: Start with the relaxed grooves of Summer Chill or Laid Back Soul & Funk.

  • Early Evening: As the party builds, transition into Soultronic.

  • Late Night: Bring out the Espresso Martinis and turn up the tempo with high-energy Disco, Warm House, or upbeat Cherry Pop.

**Having a smaller party? Try a Party Pack**

You don’t need a massive setup to host a proper cocktail bar at home.

Our Rythmik Cocktail Party Pack includes three 500ml bottles, giving you around 15 cocktails across a curated selection, complete with bottle pourers and dedicated playlists for each bottle.

**Hosting a bigger night? Scale up with a Party Case**

For medium-to-large parties (or to ensure the bar stays well-stocked until late), our Rythmik Party Cases feature six 500ml bottles at a discounted price—delivering around 30 cocktails across your choice of flavours.

**Got a major event? Think 5-Litre Boxes**

If you're planning a wedding, landmark birthday, corporate event, or hosting a large crowd, buying individual bottles isn't always the most practical option.

For larger events, we supply selected Rythmik cocktails in 5-litre boxes, providing approximately 50 cocktails per box (based on a 100ml serve). Our 5-litre range includes our Passion Fruit Martini alongside selected Rythmik favourites. Pour directly from the tap or use them to refill your 500ml bottles throughout the night.

Planning a larger party or event? Get in touch with us for current 5-litre availability, pricing, and custom volume calculations.

The best party is one you actually get to enjoy

Ultimately, that's the point. Get the drinks cold. Get plenty of ice. Put some glasses out. Choose a few cocktails. Scan a playlist. Then enjoy yourself.

Because nobody throws a party so they can spend the entire night working behind their own bar.
