Why Cherry Is Having a Moment Right Now
Mar 23, 2026
We’ve always had a bit of a thing for cherry ourselves, but it is definitely having a bit of a moment right now.
Officially a trending flavour and widely considered as the 2026 flavour of the year, It's everywhere from cherry sodas, beers to shower gels.
Which, aside from the general uproar when our 2004 limited edition sold out, we've brought back our cherry bakewell inspired Cherry Amour cocktail. And this time, it's permanent.
But more on that in a bit.
What’s behind all this love for cherry?
Riding the wave of retro nostalgia
Well, there's no doubt that some of this love is the wider trend towards nostalgia which is providing people a little source of comfort in the crazy world of ours. Little nods to our past remind us of a time when things felt a little bit more carefree - a cherry sweet, cherry cola, cherries on ice-cream sundaes, Body Shop's morello cherry lip balm - all manage to put a smile on our faces.
Bold aesthetic
Bright cherry red is emotionally strong and memorable and the cherry-coded aesthetic is a bit of a vibe right now, from glossy red lips, vintage pin-up style, cherry prints and of course, like any trend worth its salt, cherry-themed nails (guilty).
All the senses
The scent, the sharp and sweet taste, the voluptuous shape, the bright colour... it's a fruit that hits all our senses. Which is why you see so many cherry crossovers from food and drink to beauty to fashion, meaning you see it showing up in all sorts of places.
Is cherry here to stay?
Yes, according to Ben I’Anson, Senior Fruit Buyer at Ocado.com:
"Cherry has gone from a retro flavour to a modern must-have – popping up across categories in fun, nostalgic and often unexpected ways. This surge in cherry flavoured products has translated to growing success in the fresh cherries category, as customers have a newfound appreciation for the fresh fruit."
Our POV is that cherry does something that other fruits don't. Cherry hits a rare combo:
A bit flirty, allowing it to feel grown up and making sure it doesn't get stuck in childhood. A strong visual identity.
And from a flavour perspective, it brings natural sweetness, a slight tartness, and a richness that adds weight without making things heavy. It’s familiar, but it doesn’t feel basic. And when it’s used properly, it can feel genuinely premium.
Making cherry sophisticated and cocktail-worthy
Cherry actually isn’t the easiest flavour to work with for a cocktail. It’s closely associated with sweets and cakes, which means it can easily tip into something that feels overly sugary or one-dimensional if it’s not handled carefully.
To make it work in a more premium setting, you have to control it.
Keep the sweetness in check. Keep the sharpness. Make sure it still has structure.
Otherwise, it stops feeling like a proper drink.
(Re-) Introducing Cherry Amour...
Cherry Amour is our take on a Cherry Bakewell-inspired sour, built around amaretto, blended Scotch whisky, sour cherry and citrus.
The focus from the start was balance.
Keeping it sharp enough to feel clean. Structured enough to feel like a proper cocktail. And controlled enough that the cherry adds character without taking over.
Sweet, sharp and properly balanced, with just enough richness to make it feel indulgent.
The takeaway
Cherry might be having a moment, but it’s not just about the trend.
It’s about how it’s used.
Handled properly, it’s one of the most interesting flavours in drinks right now. And when it’s balanced well, it makes for something genuinely worth drinking.
